A press release is an important part of your marketing strategy, whether you're a business owner, or a marketer. It's like creating a website to promote your brand, but specifically for special announcements or updates. For example, you can use a press release to announce a new product or a partnership.
You can write your own press release to save money and ensure that the information about your business is communicated accurately. In this guide, I'll show you how to write a press release that grabs the attention of your readers.
A press release is a written announcement that updates your community about your brand. It is usually sent to journalists, asking them to cover the story in their publication. Press releases are usually no longer than one page and follow specific guidelines. To write a press release, you should include the following components:
Your company logo: Place your logo at the top to immediately grab attention.
Bold headline: The headline is the most important part of your press release. It should be captivating and communicate why people should care about your news.
Subtitle: Complement the headline with a short description that provides more details and grabs readers' attention.
Release date: Include the date and time of your announcement to show that it's time-sensitive.
Date and location: Start the body of your press release with these details to give background information about your story.
Intro paragraph: Begin with the most important information and answer the five W's (who, what, where, when, and why) in one sentence. Briefly explain what will be covered in the following paragraphs.
Body text: Provide more background information on your story, elaborating on the five W's. Include supporting details and optionally add links for more information.
Relevant quotes: Include quotes from key individuals and attribute them to the appropriate person. Quotes can help convey your perspective on the topic.
Boilerplate: Add a brief summary about your business to give readers more information about who you are and what you do. You can include links to your website and social media.
Contact information: Provide your name, email, and phone number at the bottom of the press release so that interested parties can easily get in touch with you.
